Thieves Disrupt Light Rail Service

Thieves Disrupt Light Rail Service - 26/12/2009

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - Regional Transit light rail service in Rancho Cordova was stopped Thursday after thieves stole some copper wiring from the system.

The theft, which took place along Kilgore Road and Folsom Boulevard in Rancho Cordova, disrupted service between the Hazel and Mather Field/Mill stations.

Passengers had to use bus bridges to get to their destinations.

Regional Transit said some additional damage was found as a result of the severed wires.

Spokesman Mike Wiley said the thieves put themselves in danger because of possible electrocution; and that they put the public in danger as well, because high voltage could have found its way back to a substation.
