Train Derails, Spills Fuel In Bradenton

BRADENTON - A train derailed just north of U.S. 301 and Ninth Street East about 11 a.m. Tuesday, causing a diesel fuel spill of about 150 gallons, said Manatee County Public Safety Capt. Larry Leinhauser.

The six CSX train cars jumped the track on private CSX property near the Tropicana juice processing plant. The incident did not affect traffic.

The cause for the derailment is unknown. There were no injuries, but the railroad track was damaged, Leinhauser said.

CSX employees are cleaning the fuel spill, which is not considered a threat to the public, he said.
