Under the guidance of a Senior Engineer, the Assistant Engineer - Traction Power will design traction power-related DC and AC systems for domestic and North American railway projects. Representative projects include:

NJ Transit Power Grid Analysis
Keystone Traction Power Study
CTA-95th Street Terminal Improvement project

Duties will involve electrical design calculations and traction power simulations; developing and preparing one-line and equipment layout design drawings; size equipment and design protection schemes; estimate costs for construction; developing performance and technical specifications for Traction Power Systems; preparing utility requirements; field visits to gather data for design work. In general, will provide assistance to the senior engineers in day-to-day activities required during project progression. It is expected that the applicant knows the fundamental theories of AC and DC machines, transformers, AC/DC conversion, switchgears and AC/ DC circuit theory to be able to perform the above tasks.

Traction Power Engineering is a rapidly growing field and there will be a high demand for Electrical Engineers with Traction Power Engineering skills as extensive US railroad projects are being planned. This is an entry level opportunity where the candidate can get involved in traction power engineering and develop under the guidance of experienced senior engineers.


Job Requirements

A BSEE degree is required. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is a plus. The ideal candidate will also have one to two years experience (preferably within a consulting engineering firm environment) in the electrical distribution or traction power design /distribution field. An ability to work in this Country immediately, without sponsorship, is also required.
