Our Lake Mary, Florida office is currently seeking a multi-faceted Chief Transportation Planner to join our Transportation Planning group.

HNTB is currently looking for a travel demand modeling specialist to grow the transportation planning practice. We are actively growing our capacity to assess existing and future transportation system deficiencies and solutions.

This position will provide senior level expertise and mentoring in travel demand modeling, specifically in the area of transit ridership forecasting. The position will be part of a larger traffic section, where travel demand modeling tasks are integrated into larger planning and design efforts, including traffic micro simulation, traffic operations analysis, land use and transit planning, environmental documentation, facility design and construction mitigation.

Estimating, calibrating and implementing travel demand models (highways, transit and/or rail) including TP+/Cube/Voyager, TransCAD and VISUM.
Regional, statewide and intercity demand estimation, including intercity high speed rail and premium local transit such as light rail, commuter rail and bus rapid transit.
Developing ridership and traffic forecasts using historical data sets, demand model information and land use/comprehensive planning data sets for highway, transit and high speed rail.
Use of demand models to provide insight into the interaction of land use and the transportation system, such as effects of capacity constraints, select link analysis, transit and tolling feasibility and user benefit comparisons of transportation alternatives.
Use of demand model as one tool in the process, including ability to integrate Census, ACS, FAF2/3, SUMMIT, STEAM, Mobile 6/MOVES 2010, and the ability to extract subarea trip tables for further analysis.
Communicating results in presentations and in writing.
Managing projects and tasks within scope, budget and schedule.

The successful candidate will lead projects, staff, and business development efforts in the areas of transportation planning and traffic engineering.
Individual must have a strong positive reputation with major clients and knowledge of market opportunities in Florida.
She/he will have the responsibility for winning new transportation planning assignments and for new business development.
As a leader in business development, the successful candidate will also serve as a contact internally and externally for foundation clients in the region, participate in strategic business planning efforts, and support regional transportation consulting. A high level of client interaction is expected.
As a technical leader, the successful candidate will coordinate with clients to define work programs and budgets, provide leadership in project planning and strategy including general oversight and planning, project management, and ensuring quality of work products.
The successful candidate will also support staff development through recruitment, mentoring, delegation, evaluation and retention.
In addition he/she will coordinate with office leaders regarding marketing budgets, goal setting, staffing, recruiting, and project coordination.

The career path options for this position include technical subject expert, project management, and management of staff.
Basic Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, Planning or related discipline, plus 12+ years of experience in transportation engineering and planning projects, business development and staff supervision.
Masters Degree (or equivalent) in transportation engineering, transportation planning, or related discipline is highly desirable.
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license and/or AICP is desired.
Experience working in a multi-disciplinary A&E environment is preferred.
Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
Individual must be energetic, self-directed and success focused.
The successful candidate will have a wide range of experience with, and expertise in, transportation engineering projects in the majority or all of the following:
Multi-modal planning
Traffic operational analysis
Traffic Engineering
Transit planning
Corridor planning
Traffic impact, environmental traffic and transportation studies
Transportation modeling
Safety analysis
Individual must have a strong reputation with major clients and knowledge of market opportunities in Florida, including FDOT and/or local counties and municipalities.
