The position described is for an Engineering Group Manager for URS Alaska Operations. This position includes management responsibilities for our growing engineering department and direct supervision of individual contributors.

Other duties include:

• Responsible for overall quality of work and oversees projects.
• Provides direction to staff to ensure the financial reporting, administrative requirements, and project controls are attained.
• Tracks financial performance of the group and manages staff sold time and work backlog.
• Resolves team-level conflicts.
• Responsible for compliance within corporate financial control policies.
• Responsible for maintaining existing client relationships by ensuring client needs are being met and contracts are being adhered to, attending client meetings, resolving problems, preparing client reports.
• Performs Project Management activities including developing project budgets and schedules; assigning staff to projects; negotiating sub consultant contracts; reviewing project progress; assisting sector managers; and preparing project closeouts.
• Performs Business Development activities such as business development plan development, writing and/or overseeing the development of proposals in response to RFQs and RFPs; attending local meetings to build relationships with potential clients, reviewing contracts, and obtaining and following up on new contacts.
• Performs people-management tasks for the department including: selecting/hiring, work assignment, performance appraisals, and training and development planning.
• Conducts regular staff meetings to review progress, accomplishments, budgets, strategies, and plans for the department.
• Assists in the development of the annual business plan, including budget expenditure reviews and requesting revisions to meet operational needs; and consulting with financial staff regarding budget matters.
• Performs engineering duties including overseeing the engineering and drafting aspects of a particular project; signing/sealing design documents as Engineer of Record; or performing design calculations and writing specifications.
• Prepares complex, routine and non-routine engineering design, studies and reports.
