Summary:
Our Norfolk, Va. office is hiring an experienced surveyor to help with some typographic mapping, boundary surveying, and other surveying duties. The Norfolk office concentrates primarily on Department of Defense projects and this candidate must be able to pass a background check.

Education/Experience:
This position requires a minimum of 6 years of experience, 8+ years experience preferred. Candidate must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED, some college coursework preferred. Previous experience working with Class 1 Rail Road and/or Department of Defense a plus.

Computer Skills:
Candidate must be proficient in AutoCad Civil 3D as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). The candidate should also be RTK GPS qualified as well as experience with Robotic Total Station equipment.

Travel:
This position requires up to 60% travel, primarily on the East Coast but varying depending on project.

General Duties & Responsibilities include the following (Other duties may be assigned):

1. Plans, organizes, direct and reviews work of one or more survey personnel engaged in surveying earth’s surface to determine precise location and measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction, mapmaking, or land division.
2. Researches and interprets previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for property boundary surveys.
3. Accurately calculates, records and reviews field gathered data so the information is clear and understandable.
4. Reviews job specifications and prepares the best method of completing the field work in an efficient and safe manner.
5. Ability to properly supervise the field personnel daily activity for efficiency and safety purposes.
6. Determines methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.
7. Keeps accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe work performed.
8. Be familiar with and able to mentor the proper usage of all survey instrumentation.
9. Be confident enough in ones self and decisions to communicate effectively and deal with problems or people with little guidance from Registered Land Surveyor.
10. Ability to use various amount of survey codes depending on clients standards. Ability to mentor the process of using linking codes to establish line work in the field for post process purposes.
11. Ability to understand and use field and office CADD software to analyze field gathered input prior to provide data to
CADD Technician for mapmaking.
12. Ability to enter storm pipes and inlets; use tools such as shovels, sledgehammer, pick, cutting and power tools. Supervisory Responsibilities - Coordinates and reviews the work of survey technician (S1) and or Instrument Technician (S2).
