Job Description


SUMMARY OF DUTIES: This position is responsible for the management of an effective and efficient local Material Control Dept. This position supervises, coaches and motivates the department’s personnel, utilizes TCU clerks to receive, store, issue and distribute all direct and indirect materials used in the repair and direct support of the Maintenance of Rolling Stock Equipment, i.e. RR Passenger Cars and Locomotives.
• Creates and ensure positive, local Labor Relations, provide a safe and clean working environment. • Utilize and maintain all support equipment and physical plant. • Manage the physical control and security of inventory materials. • Establish and maintain an acceptable service level. • Ensure processes, practices and procedures that improve the business are in place and adhered to. • Maintain a favorable inventory level resulting in an ever-increasingly-improved tune ratio. • Interface with Vendors, Customers, Reg. Agencies, other RR’s, and Dept.’s Train workforce for future promotions. • Instill a strong sense of and responsibility for Safety and Diversity.

• Manage properly and contribute to the positive overall welfare of the Corporations assets, particularly cash. • Limit liabilities when and wherever possible.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
WORK EXPERIENCE: • Proven extensive experience in materials management, warehouse inventory control, and planning and distribution environment. • Working knowledge of SAP system and managerial experience. • Strong working knowledge of Corporate policies & procedures including safety, material management & DOT (CFR49) requirements. • Strong oral & written communication skills. Proven managerial experience. Satisfactory job performance is required. • Satisfactory prior job performance. • Proven excellent interpersonal skills, leadership, and problem solving and presentation skills to guide and support members of the assigned unit in achieving goals consistent with departmental and corporate programs.
PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE: • Experience demonstrating skill-managing people, programs and/or projects and managing warehouse operations. • Proven experience in forecasting, logistics, scheduling production control in a heavy repair & turn around railroad maintenance facility. • Experience in the management of continuous improvement within a major program in a matrix organization. • Knowledge of strategic sourcing strategies for program execution. • APICS certification.
COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
