Job Summary:
Supports Regional General Managers by fostering a safe working environment and ensuring the accomplishment of structured training throughout the assigned region to increase safety, security, productivity, and reliability to our customers. Critical objectives include reducing Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reportable injuries and terminal accidents, maintaining terminal infrastructure security, and increasing productivity through development of a positive safety culture of prevention and accountability.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities:

Monitor and administer all required periodic general and specific safety training at all regional terminals to include, but not limited to, general safety rules, standard operating procedures, securement procedures, HAZMAT safety, and motor vehicle safety.
Proactively enforce and encourage safe operating practices and rules compliance at all assigned terminals to reduce OSHA reportable injuries and mishaps. Conduct Technical Assist Visits (TAV) at regional terminals to identify and correct safety discrepancies. Provide feedback and follow up with Terminal Managers and regional General Managers.
Provide regional contractor and vendor oversight for safety, security, and training needs and compliance.
Assist Risk Management with regional mishap investigations and provide specific recommendations and lessons learned to prevent future incidents.
Identify safety and training requirements at all regional terminals and coordinate with HQ safety and training managers to allocate resources accordingly.
Assist terminal managers with local contingency plans for evacuation or shelter-in-place procedures, disaster recovery, emergency response plans and environmental issues.
Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree from an accredited institution required
2 or more years of experience required in Transportation, Safety, Production, or Operations

Equivalent Qualifications:

Associates degree from an accredited institution required
4 or more years of experience required in Transportation, Safety, Production, or Operations

Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to meeting the above qualifications, any of the following are preferred:

Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in Occupational Safety and Health, Transportation, or a related field of study
2 or more years of supervisory experience in Safety, Production, or Operations

Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of Intermodal operations and basic business concept
Knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Association of American Railroads (AAR), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and other regulatory agencies as they apply to Intermodal Operations
Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
Oral and written communication and presentation skills
Ability to express ideas clearly in writing for memos, letters, reports, and incidental presentations
Ability to effectively communicate with internal/external points-of-contact regardless of their status or position
Ability to facilitate structured training to diverse groups
Ability to prioritize and effectively manage a diverse portfolio of responsibilities while fulfilling the primary mission of support to the regional General Managers in fostering a safe and secure working environment
Ability to assess and address safety concerns at transportation terminals
Ability to work autonomously within the guidelines and procedures prescribed by company policy and at the direction of the Manager of Terminal and Motor Carrier Safety
Ability to be engaged, proactive, and responsive in a dynamic operating environment
Ability to enforce safety rules at terminals at all times and with all employees, contractors, and vendors

Job Requirements:

50% travel required.
Wear protective equipment such as welding shields, hard hat, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, work boots, safety vest, face shield and safety glasses.
Work hours may vary in length and schedule (may include a non-standard workweek).
Willing and able to work different shifts as assigned in a 24/7 operation (including weekends and holidays).
Federal regulations require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol.
The applicant selected for this position may be required to successfully complete a background check and physical including a drug test. Passing results must be received prior to start date in new position.

Environmental Conditions:

Work outside in all weather conditions.
Work in confined spaces at times.
Work at elevated heights at times.
Work with hazardous materials occasionally.
