Tasks

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Manager – Master Data will be responsible for leading, managing, and maintaining a system of internal controls related to processing, analyzing, recording and reconciling master data. This requires daily management of master data construction, setup and ongoing maintenance for Billing, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Project Systems and Controlling (Costing) master data. The incumbent will be responsible to support business processes for the Billing, AR, GL and Controlling ledgers as well as providing the integration support for the HCM, Logistical and Operational business teams. They are responsible for the daily management, training and professional development of the staff, which includes performance monitoring, evaluation and implementing personnel actions. Additionally, the manager will act as a liaison between the Assistant Controller, Revenue Accounting’s organization (Accounts Receivable and Revenue) to the Center of Expertise (COE) in delivering functional support in the set up for financial master data.
The incumbent will engage with and require an understanding of Amtrak’s Financial accounting business processes and master data to:
• Manage the relationship between the financial departments and the COE to convey and provide a level of

understanding of the requirements needed to support service tickets and enhancements relating to Billing, AR, GL, CO and PS master data. • Manage issue resolution with master data. • Manage the approval process for the requests for new master data. • Creation and if applicable the redefinition/redesign of any master data process definitions related to system changes initiated by the business. • Understand the Operational and Logistical business solution including the design, build, testing and integration points, to ensure the systems are functioning as an integrated solution. • Understand the Order to Cash revenue cycles and how the legacy revenue systems integrate with the business design. • Understand the use and management of Billing and AR accounting cycles to record financial activities and the integration into the financial systems. • Understand the creation, maintenance and utilization of costing sheets and their application of project overhead and rates for customer billing and invoicing. • Understand the use of project systems, including creation, approval, closing and the information utilized for customer billing. • Understand the collection and application of cash payments. • Work with the financial departments to understand, define and correct any security or financial control issues as they relate to master data. • Assist in the development of end-user reference material such as job aids needed to support/aid end-users.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: • Masters Degree Business Administration or related field. • CPA certification.
WORK EXPERIENCE: • Demonstrated years of relevant accounting, finance, or other business experience. • Proven financial management experience reflecting progressive responsibility in the area of accounting, customer billing, financial analysis, and general financial applications. • Demonstrated skill in leading, managing, and motivating team members with varying levels of expertise. Ability to manage staff, delegate tasks and handle multiple priorities at the same time. • Extensive knowledge of GAAP and GAAS and the ability to apply them to the evaluation and creation of internal controls. • Ability to visualize, plan, negotiate and focus others to implement change. • Demonstrated skills in developing, implementing, and managing programs/initiatives. • Ability to develop and utilize performance measurements effectively. • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. • Demonstrated skill at effectively communicating financial concepts to financial and non-financial customers, including the delivery of formal presentations. • Experience in developing and implementing organizational processes and business systems, including the development of relevant policies and procedures governing these activities. • Demonstrated skill analyzing, interpreting, and reporting quantitative data for business use and action. • Knowledge of cost accounting principles sufficient to plan and control corporate business activity. • Ability to lead multifaceted projects from concept to conclusion. • Frequently learns new tasks, both complex and simple, in order to maintain effectiveness in position. • Demonstrated skill in leading, managing, and motivating team members with differing levels of expertise.
Requirements
• Honest, ethical, reliable, responsible, and dependable. • Proficiency with integrated accounting systems, PC Applications, and with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Power Point, and Word. • Strong organizational and project management skills.
PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE: • Significant relevant accounting, finance, or other business experience. • Transportation industry experience. • Knowledge and experience associated with Amtrak’s accounting structure. • Experience with SAP modules FI-GL, FI-AR, PS, CO, and SD, Business Objects, and BPC.
COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Strong oral and written communication skills with proven ability to interface effectively with individuals at various levels within and outside the organization sufficient to exchange information, work cooperatively, facilitate understanding, and persuade and influence others.
