Job Summary:

Manages the safety and overall performance of the Automotive Distribution Centers within Region 7 to meet company core values and competency and performance management goal expectations. Controls the vehicle handling and terminal rail car activities for various auto manufacturers, while also working directly with these customers and their field representatives to meet their objectives and maintain specified standards. Develops and manages a regional operations budget. Provides direction to the contractor network ensuring that the highest productivity, quality, and safety levels are achieved.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities:

Develop safety programs, set safety goals, and define measurements to assure safe operations are performed at all terminals within the region. Conduct safety meetings in accordance with CSX, customer, and Total Distribution Services Incorporated (TDSI) policies. Work closely with CSX system safety group as well as division safety coordinators.
Maintain International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification and compliance. Maintain compliance to all CSX Transportation (CSXT), federal, state, and TDSI regulations at all terminals. Conduct customer, Association of American Railroads (AAR), ISO, and TDSI meetings, reviews, and audits based on a defined schedule.
Develop terminal budgets that are consistent with meeting the expectations of corporate goals. Manage the contractors ensuring expenses do not exceed budgetary goals and guidelines. Process invoices daily and record expenses as directed. Develop capital spending improvements within a region. Solicit bids from outside vendors and make strategic decisions from their proposals. Manage all facets of the regional capital plan.
Work directly with CSXT Superintendents, Trainmasters, contractors, and the Automotive Service Group to maintain loaded and empty rail car flows into and out of the terminals. Review transit performance measurements with the customers and work with the Service Design department to identify and correct any service issues to ensure service reliability and provide continuous improvement to meet customer standards. Support TDSIs commitment of ‘Every Rail Car Everyday’.
Work directly with customers, contractors, haulaway companies, and CSXT controlling vehicle inventory and quality control programs. Conduct any vehicle accessory program that may be instituted an ADC as instructed. Work with CSX Real Property to identify and lease parking sites to increase terminal capacity.
Strive to achieve safety and top productivity performance at every terminal. Encourage quality performance and teamwork to meet daily objectives.
Work directly with CSX Technology to enhance or change any TDSI inventory system. Manage the terminal inventory and billing systems to assure compliance.
Participate in Automotive conference calls 7 days a week.
Ensure all company equipment is maintained in accordance with corporate guidelines.
Ensure facilities are maintained in world class condition.
Takes on leadership role that collaborates and builds consensus with cross-functional teams.
Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, Marketing, Sales, Business Administration, Transportation, or related major field of study
1 or more years of experience required in Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations, or Business/Strategic Management

Equivalent Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma/GED or Associates degree from an accredited institution required
10 or more years of experience required in Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations, or Business/Strategic Management

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to meeting the above qualifications, any of the following are preferred:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Supply Chain/Logistics/Operations, Transportation, or Business Administration
1 or more years of supervisory experience in Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations, or Business/Strategic Management

Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of accounting principles and practices for budget, reporting, and billing processes to include associated administrative functions
Railroad Industry knowledge
Creative and strategic problem solving skills
Time management and prioritization skills
Microsoft Office skills
Written and oral communication skills
Presentation skills
Collaboration at all levels of organization and consultative skills
Negotiation and influencing skills
Relationship building and conflict resolution skills

Job Requirements:

50% travel required.
Wear protective equipment such as welding shields, hard hat, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, work boots, safety vest, face shield and safety glasses.
Work hours may vary in length and schedule. Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek.
Federal regulations require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol.
The applicant selected for this position may be required to successfully complete a background check and physical including a drug test. Passing results must be received prior to start date in new position.

Environmental Conditions:

Work outside in all weather conditions.
Work in confined spaces.
Work at elevated heights, in certain instances in excess of 100 feet.
Work with equipment that intensifies the heat factor.
