HNTB currently has an exciting opportunity for an Sr. Rail Mechanical Engineer in our Philadelphia, PA office.

Need to have someone with experience doing mechanical work for repair shops, fueling facilities, compressed air plants, boilers/chillers, HVAC, cranes, etc.
Responsible for design of piping systems and piping layout including piping material selection, piping material line classes, standard and specialty piping components, pressure, weight and thermal analysis of piping systems, vibration analysis and piping support systems.
In addition, responsible for design of HVAC systems including boilers, chillers, compressed air systems, pumps, distribution, air handling units, controls selection, equipment schedules, calculations and energy efficiency strategies. Experience in fueling and fire protection systems design is a plus.
Responsible for coordination of the work in a multi-disciplined team throughout the course of a projects development.
Establish client relationships and perform marketing, design and production tasks relevant to mechanical systems.
May assume the mechanical lead role on many projects and participate in reviews with various clients for code compliance.
Under broad direction, supervises and leads a group of engineers and designers.
Sets the technical standards and procedures of a group of engineers and designers.
Job role is responsible for a management of the assigned staff, project budget, and project schedule.
Strong design-build-build and design-bid knowledge in schematic, design development and contract document deliverables for mechanical systems in conjunction with Project Managers, Project Architects, Contractors and other disciplines.
Coordinate workload through the entire projects development, and will be responsible for tracking the financial aspects of the project, and subsequently coordinating and adjusting the work effort with the team as needed.
Experience in railroad repair shop/yard a plus.

Basic Qualifications:

BS in Mechanical Engineering required.
Professional Engineer (PE) certification required. PA preferred.
10 years in mechanical system design of mechanical HVAC and piping systems, particularly central heating and cooling plants. Diverse client base with specific focus in the Aviation, Rail and other Federal Government markets.
Software Knowledge of PIPE-FLO, AutoPipe is desired in addition to AutoCAD, particularly Autodesk Building Systems program (3D AutoCAD).
Must be proficient with Load Calculation software (ie Trane Trace, Equest, Carrier HAP), and have a strong knowledge of IBC codes.
Demonstrated leadership skills, previous team coordination and project management experience.
Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm preferred.
LEED accreditation is preferred.
