Job Description


Job Summary:

Member of a team planning the testing of Communications and Signals (C&S), and Positive Train Control (PTC) safety and operational critical systems. Responsible for working within the wayside team to determine the testing required, prepare test plans, ensure Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and CSX compliance, and direct the testing of other management and contract employees. Plans and coordinates service testing with multiple departments and foreign railroads.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities:

Participates in field testing activities of a wayside PTC and C&S cutover by determining the testing required, ,approving test plans, ensuring FRA/CSX specification compliance, and communicating test plan requirements.

Part of a team that creates safety and operational critical system integration plans to successfully test wayside signal projects. The individual is required to determine federal reporting requirements in addition to CSX reporting.

•Coordinate with CSX Transportation, CSX Signal Construction, CSX Technology, CSX Design and Construction, and foreign railroads when planning and testing major signal cutovers.
•Access safety and operational implications due to defects or errors found during testing and provide solutions to project management.
•Document design discrepancies and perform quality reviews with signal engineering consultants and project stakeholders.
•Identify and develop testing process improvement initiatives.
•Serve as a technical liaison to field employees and signal engineering managers.
•Participate in product testing and first article reviews of new signal equipment and software applications.
•Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.


Minimum Qualifications:
•Associates degree from an accredited institution required
•3 or more years of experience required in Railroad Signaling

Equivalent Minimum Qualifications:
•High School diploma/GED required
•5 or more years of experience required in Railroad Signaling

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to meeting the above qualifications, any of the following are preferred:
•Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in Electrical/Electronic Trades, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
•3 or more years of supervisory experience

Knowledge and Skills:
•Knowledge of federal regulations pertaining to railroad signal systems
•Ability to obtain appropriate information and draw conclusions from written and oral instructions
•Ability to thrive in a fast-pace and demanding work environment while remaining even-tempered and in control
•Ability to communicate and work with other CSX departments for the plannning and testing of signal systems
•Demonstrated commitment to safety by abiding by safety guidelines and precautions, and proficient with identifying and avoiding operational safety risk
•Ability to adapt to change and provide solutions to problems as they occur
•Microsoft Office Suite

Job Requirements:
•75% travel required.
•Work hours may vary in length and schedule. Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek.
•Wear protective equipment such as welding shields, hard hat, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, work boots, safety vest, face shield and safety glasses.
•Federal regulations require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol.
•The applicant selected for this position may be required to successfully complete a background check and physical including a drug test. Passing results must be received prior to start date in new position.
