Job Description

Description The primary duties of the Sr. Project Manager-Transit Client Service Manager include all aspects of client and design-team management of light rail, heavy rail, commuter rail, streetcar, and bus rapid transit projects. More specific duties include coordinating the planning and environmental process, as well as managing the assembly of plans, specifications and construction estimate packages. Will plan, organize, and supervise the work of a staff of professionals and technicians. This person will be viewed as a technical expert with recognized authority in the area of rail planning, design and construction. Additionally, this person will be viewed as a key individual to serve as a high level point of contact between NY clients and HDR. The candidate will also be responsible for strengthening relationships with other consultants, transit authorities, and agencies which may require the rail/transit services of HDR in the future. This individual will have a key role in continuing to build HDR’s Rail/Transit Practice in New York City by successfully pursuing projects, mentoring rail/transit staff, work-sharing with HDR’s National Rail/Transit Group, and recruitment.


Requirements BS Civil Engineering is required. MS Civil Engineering or Business is preferred. PE required. 15+ years of progressively responsible rail transit project management and design experience. The best candidate will be one who has a industry recognized reputation for successfully completed transit/freight corridor projects of significant technical complexity, who has had leadership roles in project development from planning and alternatives analysis, through the New York and Federal environmental approval process, through final design, and into construction and implementation. This candidate must be able to demonstrate business development and strategic planning skills, strong communication, leadership, planning and mentoring skills.
