More information about this job: Overview: HNTB understands the important role of passenger and freight rail within our communities. As our communities and rail infrastructure face increased demands, the role of the transportation systems elements has become even more critical to sustainable development and movement of people and goods. HNTBs transit and rail practice encompasses planning, design, design/build, construction management, station facility design, signal systems, bridge and track design; for commuter rail, high-speed rail, heavy rail, LRT, and freight rail projects; providing a safe and efficient rail operation for our clients. The HNTB team of engineers, architects and planners work together to provide our clients with a complete design, construction and program management solution. We are looking for a Junior to mid-level civil/structural engineer for our Chicago office. Responsibilities: This position will: * Manage smaller transit/rail design work (USD 100M) * Coordinate with other project disciplines including structural, architectural and systems aspects of the project * Coordinate with FTA and client, as well as local municipalities and permitting agencies * Support the Project Manager and the project team by coordinating efforts relative to project schedule, cost estimates and progress reporting * Design track alignment plans and other similar Rail Design activities. Qualifications: The qualified candidate will have: * 5+ years experience, track and/or structural designs, commuter rail, heavy rail, light rail * Experience with CTA, Metra and/or Class I freight railroads (Canadian Pacific, Union Pacific, Norfolk Southern) a plus * P.E. in the State of Illinois, or ability to get within 1 year * Bachelors Degree in civil/structural engineering * Strong communication and organizational skills, and team-oriented * Experience as a Senior design/construction manager with experience in developing and packaging contract documents * CADD capability * Thorough understanding of the implementation and adherence to ANSI, ASTM, ASME, IEEE and AREMA standards
