Position Title: Corporate Medical Director
Department: Human Resources

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL APPLICANTS

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Provide medical services to Amtrak departments on issues requiring medical record review, interpretation of medical information and decision making relating to medical issues and reportability in company and mandated examination programs. Provide general medical advice as needed to support Amtrak departments and programs. Supervise Amtrak Health Services Nurse Managers. Complete medical assessments, including reviewing medical examinations resulting in decertification, deferral, qualification for accommodation, work relatedness and fitness for duty. Develop, interpret and apply medical policies and standards. Apply medical components of corporate policy and practice as a Qualified Health Care Provider. Support on-duty injury, disability and absence management programs. Provide medical decisions for FRA, ADA and FMLA and request additional documentation or further evaluation as appropriate. Ensure adherence to Federal medical standards for hours-of-service and commercial drivers licenses employees. Provide litigation support for all corporate medical issues and be available for on-call emergencies. Serve as Amtrak representative on federal, state, and local level committees, as required.

EDUCATION: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy.

WORK EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated experience with occupational medicine; supervision of medical and administrative staff.

PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated experience in a corporate setting providing medical guidance and advice on occupational medical related issues; supervision of medical and administrative staff; experience working in a unionized environment; knowledgeable of duties as a medical review officer and government regulations pertaining to occupational medical issues.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Board certified in occupational medicine.

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Must be able to communicate with management, union representatives and employees. Must be a good listener and problem solver. Must maintain confidential information.
