POSITION: General Foreman
DEPARTMENT: Mechanical
LOCATION: Wilmington, DE
SALARY: USD 63,000 - USD 80,000

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL APPLICANTS

DUTIES: Responsible for the operation of an area of major overhaul, major repair, and/or component backshop, including efficient use of personnel, timely performance of work, quality of work, and financial aspects of the associated budget. Expected to be a role model for safety and to provide direct and individual leadership in all aspects of the operation. Executes complex production plans requiring problem solving skills and flexibility and ensures production conforms to safety, regulatory, and passenger aesthetic requirements. Works with other managers to increase productivity and quality while ensuring budget is met. Responsible and accountable for ensuring employee hours are charged to units accurately and timely. Coordinates efforts with rolling stock engineering and with materials management.

EDUCATION: Must have Associates Degree in Engineering or the equivalent combination of education, training and/or work experience. Prefer Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE: Must have demonstrated manufacturing experience in transit, railway or utility service, repair and maintenance. Experience in managing service/operations with complex collective bargaining agreements. Prior satisfactory job performance required.

PREFFERED WORK EXPERIENCE: Experience in repairing and overhauling passenger rolling stock equipment.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Ability to plan and effectively control costs through economical utilization of personnel, material, and equipment. Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems. Initiative to find better ways of doing business through process improvement efforts. Knowledge of accepted industry standards. Experience in managing a multi-shift operation, in material management, and in quality control.

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
