The Senior System Engineer is responsible for determining technical direction across all products, defining the customer needs and required functionality of the system, documenting and maintaining those requirements, and overseeing the technical aspects of the system throughout the entire life cycle. The Senior System Engineer has the primary oversight responsibility for all technical aspects of the system during all phases of system development from the inception to completion and maintenance.


SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* *Provides technical input to the budgeting, financial planning, cost estimations, proposals, schedule creation, schedule leveling, schedule maintenance and technical coordination of multiple projects.
* *Oversees all technical issues of the system during all phases of system development from inception to project completion and maintenance.
* *Responsible for development of the system requirements and design while ensuring they meet the internal and external customer needs.
* *Responsible for converting executive level business objectives into technical strategies and action plans.
* *Communicates project status and technical needs with the Project Manager.
* *Directs development of Hardware, Software, etc to meet the technical scope and requirements.
* *Responsible for developing and maintaining a consistent technical strategy across the products.
* *Identifies project problems and helps develop solutions, such as specification changes or new technical solutions.
* *Provides scheduled project updates relating to milestones and problem / high risk areas (e.g., technical, cost and schedule).
* *Leads team(s) in identifying, quantifying and mitigating risk.
* *Develops and implements corrective action and recovery plans as required.
* *Participates in R & D process improvement initiatives.
* Attends Company and industry-related meetings, as required.
* Establishes individual goals which are aligned with the Companys business strategies and objectives.
* Functions as a team lead and provides direction and leadership.
* Assists the department in the accomplishment of the teams goals.
* Maintains Company information in a confidential manner.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

* Ability to maintain various levels of visual attention and mental concentration for significant periods of time.

* Ability to occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

* Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS
A. This position requires working in an internal environment. Primary activities occur inside in a temperature-controlled environment. This position may require occasional outdoor activities when visiting field installations.
B. This position has regular exposure to office environment noise conditions.
C. This position requires occasional travel.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

* Bachelors degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience.
* Minimum of ten years of experience in an engineering position developing embedded systems.
* Minimum of five years of experience in the railroad industry.
* Technical expert on railroad industry products and applications.
* Excellent MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, VISIO, and Project skills.
* Experience with requirements management tools (DOORS, Requisite Pro, etc) is a plus.
* Experience with configuration management and configuration management tools.
* Experience with system modeling tools is a plus.
* Knowledge of System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes.
* Knowledge of Capability Maturity Model (CMM) a plus.
